For the last 45 years, the Cottingham Family have owned the Pharmacy in Wellington Street, Grimsby. More recently we have acquired the Pharmacy in High Street, Waltham too. A friendly team of staff supports Tim and Michael Cottingham, our current Pharmacists. All our supporting staff have or are training towards counter assistant or dispensary assistant  qualifications.

We are always pleased to offer help and advice on dispensed medicines, minor ailments and healthcare matters. We also carry a wide range of healthcare leaflets

Contact Cottingham Pharmacy

NHS Prescriptions

A Pharmacist is always available during opening hours to dispense prescriptions. Our computer system can keep a record of your medication. This is useful to ensure safety and convenience when dispensing and selling medicines.

For those people who have to pay the prescription fee, this is currently £6.40. If you can buy the item cheaper without a prescription, we will always tell you this and charge you the lower price.
Private Prescriptions

We are always happy to quote for the dispensing of private prescriptions. In some cases, your GP or dentist will give you a private prescription which could be cheaper than the NHS fee.

Collection & Delivery

We can arrange for you to have your prescription SENT DIRECT to either of our Pharmacies. This can save an unnecessary journey to your Doctor’s surgery.  

For those that are housebound or have large or heavy items we are able to offer a FREE DELIVERY service.

Oxygen

If you have a prescription for Oxygen cylinders or equipment then you can
telephone 356789 to make any necessary arrangements for delivery. Oxygen cylinders can also be collected in person from the Wellington Street
Pharmacy during our opening times. As well as the full sized cylinders, we
also have smaller and lighter cylinders that are fully portable.

Minor Ailments and Over-the-counter Medicines

Many minor ailments can be treated without having to consult a Doctor. Our Pharmacists and assistants are available to advise on a wide range of health issues and we keep a comprehensive range of medicines and supplements.
 

Emergency Contraception

Emergency hormonal contraception (the morning after pill) is now available
over the counter. For women under 20 years old it is available without
charge. The sooner it is taken after unprotected sex the more effective it
is, but it will only work if taken within 72 hours. Any lady requiring
emergency hormonal contraception will need to have a short confidential
consultation with the Pharmacist to decide whether it is appropriate or
not. If more than 72 hours has elapsed since having unprotected sex then you should contact your GP or Family Planning Clinic for further advice.

Condoms are also available free of charge to young people under the age of 20
 

Unwanted Medicines

It is not unusual to have unwanted medicines around the house but it is difficult to know how to dispose of the safely. They can be a great danger to children or anyone who takes them by mistake.

Thankfully, you can return all unused medicines to our Pharmacies where they can be safely destroyed. There is no charge for this service and we happy to take any quantity from you.
 

Nebulisers

We have a range of home use and portable nebulisers, and accessories.  So long as the equipment is being bought by or for a chronically sick person, it is not necessary for us to charge VAT on the sale. We only need a special declaration to be filled in and signed

It is recommended that nebulisers are serviced annually. Servicing and repairs can be arranged by us and includes the use of a loan machine if necessary.

 

Pregnancy Testing

We provide a confidential pregnancy testing service. The test can be performed while you wait. If you prefer, we stock a wide range of tests for home use.
 

Smoking Cessation

Smoking is the greatest single cause of avoidable illness and premature death in the UK. If you smoke and wish to quit, we stock a wide range of nicotine replacement therapies including patches, gum, lozenges, inhalators and nasal sprays.

We are able to dispense nicotine replacement therapy on either NHS prescription or on the special forms given by the Specialist Smoking Service (SSSS) at Grimsby Hospital
  Sharps Disposal Service

Syringes and needles may be safely disposed of at our Pharmacies for no charge. These need to be contained in an approved sharps-bin which are available on prescription from your GP
 

Ostomy appliances

We can supply ostomy (colostomy, ileostomy and urostomy) appliances with free disposable bags and wipes usually for next day collection or delivery.

 

Monitored Dosage Systems

It can often be difficult remembering when to take medication. Putting tablets or capsules into special 'monitored dosage' trays can often make this easier. Our Waltham Pharmacy can dispense your medication into this system for a small monthly fee.
 

Blood Pressure Testing

Our Waltham branch now offers Blood Pressure Testing. An appointment is not necessary but we do ask you to sit quietly in our waiting area for 5 minutes before the test is performed.

Homeopathic 

Homeopathy is a natural alternative to conventional medicines. Our Waltham branch carries a large range of Homeopathic medicine. Please enquire as to which product is most suitable for your condition.
